  General Description

Sembawang Country Club

The Club began as a quiet, small and unobtrusive nine-holer built by the British marines. The course was tucked away in Singapore's catchment area close to the Seletar Reservoir. Consequently, the course was naturally carved out from the jungles and rubber estates using the terrain to its fullest advantage.

The Club remained under the British until their withdrawal from Singapore when it was handed over to the New Zealand Forces. From 1968 through to 1976, the Club continued to make improvements to the course.

Now managed by the Singapore Armed Forces, the club boasts a full-eighteen-hole golf course more affectionately known as the Commando Course - a golf course that lives up to its nickname with a character and appeal unique to itself.

Course Layout :

Set in an undulating terrain with narrow fairways, blind holes and carefully positioned bunkers, the course is definitely not for the faint-hearted. "Thinking" golfers, and even the professionals, will find this intimidating course a true challange where the greens are also fairly large and "bite", allowing golfers to play a more attacking game - although putting can be rather tricky with many breaks and slopes.

The Club takes great pride in its well-maintained and manicured Bermuda greens. Though short by international standards - the course plays to a Nett 72 and is about 5,900 metres long with a course rating of 69 - the Commando Course is "well-equipped" for a great deal of golfing satisfaction.
